The Chrysler Neon was introduced to the UK market in 1996, and replaced with an updated version in 1999. Sales continued until it was withdrawn in 2003, and both models feature distinctive round headlights, placed wide apart on the flat nose.
It’s a small saloon, similar in size to the Ford Focus or Vauxhall Astra, with a very large boot. Neons were often specified with extremely generous levels of standard equipment, and every Neon was powered by a 2.0-litre petrol engine. In the second-generation model this boasted 136bhp, ensuring it’s well-suited to long, high speed motorway treks. Automatic transmission was offered as a no-cost option when new, and many buyers opted for this.
In the later Neon, you had the choice of two trim levels: SE and LX. The former includes air conditioning and dual front airbags, while the latter adds alloy wheels, air conditioning, leather upholstery, wood inlays and a six-speaker stereo. Versions fitted with an automatic gearbox also include cruise control. A high-performance sports model, the R/T, was also briefly offered and includes a body kit, increased engine performance plus larger alloys.
The supply of used Neon models is slowing, as it’s over a decade since the last model was sold.
