The Colt name was applied to a number of cars manufactured by Mitsubishi, going as far back as the early 1960s. The vehicle as we know it today was produced between 2004 and 2013.
This compact family hatchback is simple to drive and offers a surprising amount of passenger space, even for rear-row travellers. The car also features wide doors, enabling easy access to the rear, even in three-door models. The driver is able to quickly get comfortable thanks to the combination of an adjustable seat and steering column, which is available on all but entry-level models. A high roofline ensures that there’s plenty of headroom for everyone on board too. This feature extends to the vehicle’s minimum-capacity 160-litre boot space as well, which can accommodate taller-than-usual items. With 60/40 split folding rear seats pushed forwards, cargo capacity can be expanded further. Models produced from 2008 onwards come with a 186-litre boot.
Depending on the variant you select, engine specifications will vary. Many models possess a 1.3-litre 95bhp petrol unit, while some are powered by a 1.5-litre turbo charged engine. The latter produces 147bhp which enables the vehicle to go from 0-60mph in approximately 7.6 seconds. A 1.1-litre 75bhp unit, attached to a five-speed manual gearbox, is typically fitted to entry-level iterations, making the Colt particularly suitable for city driving. Optimal fuel-efficiency is offered by variants installed with a 1.3-litre 95bhp ClearTec engine, which returns as much as 56.5mpg and CO2 emissions as low as 119g/km.
Standard features include three-point seatbelts, ISOFIX child-seat anchor points and driver aids such as the Anti-lock Braking System to help provide a safe motoring experience.
