The Outlander has been in continuous production since 2001, with a second generation being released in 2006 and a third in 2012. The solidly built and well-equipped crossover vehicle was first made available in the UK in 2004 and was applauded for the comfortable ride it provided and its ability to progress swiftly over less-than-perfect surfaces.

The handsome-looking Outlander is fitted with wide doors, enabling easy access to its five-seat cabin. Inside, the driver is provided with an adjustable and elevated position, offering good visibility and comfort in equal measures. An adjustable steering wheel is included too. Each seat offers good support, which is particularly welcome on long journeys. Most models are fitted with five seats, while some more recent variants are able to transport up to seven people. The Outlander typically features a 402-litre boot space, which means it is just as suitable for shopping trips as it is for traversing rugged terrain.

Original iterations were fitted with a 2.4-litre 158bhp petrol engine, paired with four-speed automatic transmission. This four-cylinder unit produces 216Nm of torque and enables the vehicle to go from 0-60mph in approximately 11 seconds. Second-generation variants come with a 2.2-litre turbo-diesel engine, offering either 156bhp or 174bhp, and are paired with six-speed manual (or automatic) gearboxes. The 174bhp unit delivers 0-60mph in roughly ten seconds, while returning up to 43mpg and a 155g/km CO2 emissions figure, depending on the model selected. Third-generation models can offer even greater fuel efficiency and produce lower emissions.
