Manufactured between 1998 and 2006, the Shogun Sport is a very capable off-road and towing vehicle that offers lots of passenger space and features a sizeable load area.

This five-door vehicle has real presence, which is a consequence, in part, of its substantial ground clearance – a particularly useful feature when it comes to tackling rough terrain. The majority of more recent models feature labour-saving features, such as power-operated side-view mirrors. Top-of-the-range Elegance trims, meanwhile, boast fixtures such as lightweight alloy wheels, a roof spoiler and roof rails.

Inside, a five-person cabin provides plenty of passenger space and is well laid out. A 545-litre minimum-capacity ensures that the Shogun Sport is a practical family solution as well as a countryside cruiser. Most models come with electric windows and a sound system, while Elegance grades also feature air conditioning.

More recent models are fitted with a 2.5-litre diesel engine, paired with five-speed manual transmission. This 114bhp unit produces 240Nm of torque, and it’s easy to switch between two and four-wheel drive. Some 2000-vintage models come with a 3.0-litre V6 engine, which produces 174bhp and 255Nm of torque. One of the Shogun Sport’s key strengths is a braked towing capacity of 2,800kg, making it perfect for pulling heavy items such as a caravan or horsebox.
