The Mitsubishi Shogun has been in continuous production since 1982 and has been sold in most parts of the world. This mid-size four-wheel-drive SUV comes in three and five-door body styles.
The chunkily appealing Shogun boasts genuine off-road prowess, while providing respectable ride quality. The vehicle has evolved to the point where it now features a sloping bonnet, providing the driver with a great view of the road ahead. When it comes to tackling uneven countryside routes, the Shogun in its current iteration is easily a match for equivalent models produced by Jeep, Land Rover, Nissan or Toyota.
More recent variants feature 18-inch alloy wheels and body-coloured bumpers and door handles as standard. Black-finished roof rails and rear privacy glass also enhance the vehicle’s smart-looking exterior. A well-built cabin comes with a number of features, such as power-operated windows and air conditioning, which are standard with all recent models. Audio enjoyment is provided by an MP3-compatible sound system, while safe hands-free telecommunication is enabled by the inclusion of Bluetooth connectivity.
Standard safety equipment with newer models includes three-point seatbelts, a range of airbags, ISOFIX preparation and driver aids such as Anti-lock Braking System.
Fourth-generation iterations are powered by a 3.2-litre diesel engine, which is hooked up to a five-speed manual gearbox. This four-cylinder unit produces 197bhp and 281Nm of torque, which enables three-door variants to go from 0-60mph in less than ten seconds. The Shogun’s braked towing capacity of 3,000kg means that it is more than capable of pulling a horsebox or caravan.
