The ‘Silvia’ name was first applied to a Nissan car during the mid-1960s. The vehicle returned in 1974 and was produced for a further 28 years. This handsome sports coupé, more commonly known as the 200SX in the UK, first officially hit these shores in 1989, where it was sold brand-new until 2001.
There’s a desirable, subtly retro look to the car’s exterior design which, nevertheless, still manages to appear thoroughly modern. This two-door vehicle (some earlier models come with three doors) rides on alloy wheels, features electrically adjustable and heated side-view mirrors and front fog lamps.
Inside, the 200SX provides 2+2 seating and, even at full power, delivers a comfortable and relaxing ride, particularly during long journeys. Standard features include a rake-adjustable steering wheel, electric windows and air-conditioning. Many models are specified with an optional Touring pack, which adds leather upholstery, a CD auto-changer and more.
This rear-wheel-drive sports car was initially available in the UK with a 1.8-litre 171bhp engine. Later (post-1994) models are fitted with a 2.0-litre 197bhp engine, which is mated to a five-speed manual gearbox. This turbocharged unit produces 265Nm of torque, 0-60mph in 7.3 seconds and a top speed of 146mph. Automatic transmission is available on some models but most enthusiasts have tended to prefer the control offered by a manual gearbox.
The Silvia – or 200SX – represents a terrific performance bargain. Please look further down this page to find used examples available near you. We have many more models that are sold UK-wide too.
