Production of the Vauxhall Meriva began in 2003 and ended as recently as 2017. During that time, two generations of this compact MPV were manufactured, known as Meriva A and Meriva B. Aside from the sleeker, more contemporary styling of the latter, they look relatively alike.
This compact five-door estate provides easy access to both compartments, and first-generation models come with a roomy four-person cabin. Current-generation iterations, meanwhile, have made space for a three-person rear bench. The Meriva possess a minimum-capacity 397-litre boot space, more than is offered by, for example, the Ford B-Max. With rear seats folded, cargo capacity rises to 1,450 litres (Meriva A) or 1,496 litres (Meriva B). Second-generation models do offer improved flexibility, but the original is a spacious option that is well worth considering if you don’t typically carry more than three passengers.
All models feature power steering, air conditioning and electric front windows as standard, while the Meriva B also comes with a five-star Euro NCAP crash-test rating.
Meriva A models offer fuel economy figures that vary between 36.2mpg and 56.5mpg. Meriva B variants, meanwhile, return improved fuel economy figures, ranging from 39.8mpg to as much as 74.3mpg. The latter is delivered by iterations that are fitted with a 1.6-litre 110bhp diesel engine, which also produces CO2 emissions as low as 115g/km.
