The Ford Capri is a motoring icon, introduced in 1969 and on sale in the UK in three generations until 1986, becoming one of the best-selling and most common sights on Britain’s roads.
It’s a two-door coupé powered by a range of petrol engines, ranging from humble 1.3 and 1.6-litre units to more potent V6s. Many remaining examples feature 2.8 and 3.0-litre powerplants, most with manual gearboxes. In the 30 years since its discontinuation, numbers have dwindled and the Capri has become a modern classic, with well-maintained and low-mileage versions increasingly hard to come by. ’S’ versions are particularly prized.
There was a range of special editions offered towards the end of the production run, including the Brooklands, Calypso and Cabaret. Naturally, Capris are comparatively spartan inside compared to modern cars, but that’s not why you want one.
