Now in its fourth generation, the Nissan Pathfinder was first released as far back as 1985, and has been widely available in the UK since 2005. This tough SUV delivers plenty of passenger capacity, comes very well equipped and is a very capable off-roader too.
The Pathfinder is as well-built as its rugged good looks suggest. It also comes with eye-catching fixtures, such as lightweight alloy wheels, a chrome grille and rear privacy glass. Handy roof rails crown the vehicle, and electrically adjustable side-view mirrors are included too, complete with integrated puddle lights.
Inside, each seat provides a supportive and comfortable position for the traveller, and the driver further benefits from a multi-way-adjustable position. Climate control and four power-operated windows help to keep the temperature just right, and audio entertainment is provided by a CD sound system, with Bluetooth connectivity and MP3 compatibility.
The vehicle comes with a 190-litre boot but if more cargo space is required, second and third row-seats can be folded to provide a generous 2,091-litre capacity. What’s more, the front passenger seat can be folded forwards, enabling especially long items to be incorporated.
A range of safety features include Anti-lock Braking System, Electronic Stability Programme, power steering, rear parking sensors, a suite of airbags and ISOFIX child-seat fixtures.
The vehicle is powered by a 2.5-litre diesel engine, which is paired with six-speed manual transmission. (Some models are specified with automatic transmission.) This four-cylinder unit produces 169bhp and 403Nm of torque. The Pathfinder is fairly quick for its size, managing 0-60mph in around 12 seconds. This 4x4 has some serious towing prowess too and can pull up to 2,722kg.
