In production since 2000, the Nissan X-Trail is a large family 4x4 that typically seats five people. Since its release there have been two subsequent generations, in 2007 and 2014.
This four-door compact crossover is stylish and comfortable, offering good grip, assured handling and responsive steering. It is a more than capable off-roader too, featuring good ground clearance, for instance.
Most models are equipped with roof rails, while all feature power-adjustable door mirrors. All editions produced from 2007 onwards ride on alloy wheels as standard and come with body-coloured fixtures such as bumpers.
Inside, the vehicle’s front row provides a superb driving position, delivering a great view of the road ahead and good all-round visibility. The driver can also adjust the steering wheel and most models feature a multi-adjustable seat for complete comfort. The vehicle provides ample head and legroom in both compartments and each provides plenty of support.
The X-Trail comes with a panoramic sunroof, which bestows a light and airy feel upon the cabin. Depending on the trim level/and or age of the vehicle, luggage capacity reaches a generous 603 litres and can be expanded further with rear seats folded.
The vehicle was originally launched with a choice of 2.0-litre petrol and 2.2-litre diesel engines. In 2007, four-wheel drive was provided with all models, and two 2.0-litre turbo-diesel units (with power outputs of 150bhp and 173bhp) became the only engine options available. The 173bhp unit delivers 0-60mph in a little over ten seconds and is paired with a six-speed manual gearbox (although some models are specified with automatic transmission). This pair of engines also enables the X-Trail to tow up to 2,200kg.
