The Maverick nameplate was attached to two different SUVs, sold in the UK from 1993 to 1999 and then from 2001 to 2005.
The first is a rebadged version of the Nissan Terrano II, and was sold as both a three-door and a five-door model with up to seven seats, and both petrol and diesel engines. The second-generation model was a five-seat, five-door SUV sold in the USA under the Ford Escape nameplate, with either a 2.0-litre four-cylinder or 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine under the bonnet.
The original Maverick had a more traditional 4x4 construction and was highly capable off-road; the later Maverick was more road-focused, combining a car-like drive with a highly-set driving position. Neither ever sold in huge numbers in the UK, so can be reasonably tricky to track down as a used model. If you’re looking for one, AutoVolo brings together models from both private sellers and the trade across the UK.
